Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez Review

“If you're with someone who doesn't speak your language you'll spend a lifetime having to translate your soul.”

Abby Jimenez can do no wrong in my eyes. She is one of my favorite authors of all time. I get absorbed in her writing and lost in her words. As always, if you are in a time crunch scroll down to the bottom for a quick bullet point summary!

Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez

Synopsis

Dr. Briana Ortiz has been going through a divorce for the last year. A divorce that has been flipping her life upside down. Finding out your husband has been sleeping with one of your friends for two years is never a good thing. Not only has her love life completely shattered, but her brother is in desperate need for a new kidney.

Dr. Jacob Maddox has moved hospitals because at his last hospital he had to see his ex-girlfriend and his brother date. That's right, his ex-girlfriend of two years who is about to announce her engagement to his brother after only a few months. This new hospital is supposed to be a new start. Unfortunately, his transition isn’t going great. The nurses dislike him and now so does Briana.

After Jacob realizes he may have come off the wrong way, he writes Briana a letter, explaining his side of the story. She writes back and then they end up going from letters, to facebook messages to phone calls. After Jacob volunteers to do something life changing for Briana, she tells him she will do whatever he needs. And what he needs is a pretend girlfriend to get his parents off his back and stand by his side through the wedding festivities.

Fake dating… What could go wrong?

Review

One of my favorite things about Abby Jimenez is her ability to intertwine all of her novels together in some way. You will be reading and then find a reference to another one of her novels. Not just within a series, but across both of her series.

Briana is the type of character that I just wish I had their confidence. I love how she uses glitter to do her dirty work. Jacob’s character is absolutely swoon worthy. Although he has anxiety, he manages it in a healthy way knowing his limits. The way Bri knows how to bring out Jacob’s strengths and help him with his weaknesses is what makes them the perfect couple. Not even just the perfect couple, but soulmates.

This book has so many of my favorite things, dual POV, fake dating and slow burn. The character growth was great because Bri and Jacob didn’t just grow individually, but together. The supporting characters were well written as well. I even liked Amy at the end of the book. I didn’t see some of the plot twists coming and loved how Yours Truly ended.

The only thing that drove me crazy was the miscommunication portion of this book. I hate that they kept assuming what each other were feeling, BUT I understand why they would. Even with the miscommunication, this is still a 4 star read for me. Make sure to go and check out Abby Jimenez's new book!
