Wreck the Halls by Tessa Bailey

“There’s no Beat without a Melody”

Wreck the Halls was my first Christmas book of the year and it was AMAZING! It is my favorite of the five Tessa Bailey books I have read so far. Make sure to add this to your TBR this holiday season!

Wreck the Halls by Tessa Bailey

Synopsis:

Thirty years ago, Trina Gallard and Octavia Dawkins were rocking out as part of one of the most famous rock bands around: the” Steel Birds." That was until they split for reasons unknown. Both were pregnant when Wen the split happened. Trina had Melody, and Octavia had Beat.

Beat and Melody didn’t meet until they were 16, and only for a brief moment. Their mothers hated each other, so being friends or even in the same circle would have been impossible. They had an instant connection, but quickly went on their own ways. Fourteen years later, Beat finds himself in a bind and needing money. He is approached by a producer to make a live reality TV show over two weeks to bring back the “Steel Birds.” Melody agrees, knowing that Beat needs the cash for some unknown reason.

For two weeks they work to try to reunite the “Steel Birds,” growing closer everyday. It is clear Beat has a few secrets he keeps close, but Melody is able to look past them. A TV film crew follows them around documenting their every move.

Review

What a great holiday read. While you could argue that this was insta-love, they did meet when they were teenagers. Also in any holiday book, you are going to have to have some sort of quick romance. Melody’s character had me smiling and laughing with her sarcasm and witty remarks. She was such a unique character with an interesting past. One thing that made Beat and Melody so perfect together was their upbringings. While they were different, they could also relate to one another so well. Their chemistry was off the page throughout the whole novel.

I enjoyed the reality TV show aspect. Although I do enjoy holiday books, most tropes are repetitive. This one felt new and unique. The reality TV show aspect added some extra laughs in there.

This book was a little cheesy, especially with the names, but I think every holiday book needs to have a little of that sprinkled in. Christmas definitely felt like it was intertwined with the story-line, but I would have liked a little more of a “festive feeling.”
