Things We Left Behind by Lucy Score Review

This is the book we have all been waiting for. Ever since the first book in the series, Things We Never Got Over, readers have been wondering what the deal is with Lucian and Sloane. Their hatred for each other was clear, but as readers we had no idea why.

Now we know.

Synopsis:

Sloane, the Knockemout’s librarian, has lost her father to cancer. She is trying to pull herself out of her depression and be a positive presence for her mom. In the midst of all her heartache, she realizes she is missing something: her own family. She decides it's time to start trying to find a Mr. Sloane. Thankfully she has Lina and Naomi to help her along the way.

Lucian comes to the funeral and seems to be very close with Sloan’s mom. Sloane overhears weird comments that do not make sense, but when she asks about them, they sweep them under the rug. She knows they are keeping something from her.

This book picks up where book two left off, with Lucian still trying to figure out who put his best friend, Nash, on a hit list. As Lucian continues to dig into the past, Sloane can’t seem to stop meddling either. Together, Lucian and Sloane seem to be making more enemies than friends.

The two are insufferable. Lucian doesn’t have anything nice to say and Sloane would rather eat dirt than ever accept or ask Lucian for help. But she starts to learn how much Lucian has been doing for her family over the years. When they decide to have a one night stand to get all of the lust and hatred out of their system, they quickly realize that it is a terrible idea. Once they have each other there is no going back, but Lucian has a habit of pushing Sloane away.

Review:

There is so much depth to this novel.. This is told from a dual POV between Lucian and Sloane, with flashbacks from both of their perspectives. We are able to go back in time and see what tore them apart in high school and why they are the way they are now. I absolutely loved how this novel was set up to really pull at your heart strings. I understood both perspectives and felt like it was such an impossible place for two teenangers to be.

The present was also well done and full of action. The sexual tension was radiating off the page.

We have fallen in love with all of the characters throughout the series, so being able to have them be such a big part of this novel was the best. I loved being able to see how they were doing and how they intertwined with each other. They are the definition of friends becoming family.

This book had so much action packed into but it never felt like too much. I was never bored and always excited to go to the next page to see what happened.

This the perfect ending to a series. The epilogue about where Lucian and Sloane ended up was great, but it was the bonus epilogue a few decades down the road that had me in tears. Reading this series felt like I was a part of the Knockemout community. I am so sad that it has come to an end but so excited to see what happens next.

Thank you Netgalley and Blooms Books for the opportunity to read this early!!!
