Olympian Wars Series: A Pirate Fantasy Romance Must Read
Olympian Wars Series by Dana Claire
I stumbled across War of the Sea by Dana Claire several months ago on Instagram and had the opportunity to receive an ARC. I went in blind and this series has not disappointed me. I have enjoyed all three books and love the fact it is a fantasy series that can also be read as standalones. There are no crazy cliffhangers and only happily ever afters. The stories are all interconnected and each story has a great plot with chemistry that leaves you wanting more.
War of the Sea
Captain Lou lost her father a year ago and, since then, has been captain of The Freedom. The Freedom is a ship of mostly women, making it easier to escape the wrath of the Sirens. The Caviar Sea has been plagued by Sirens taking down pirate ships. When Captain Rylander shows up on her boat telling her that the King of Cava has a deal to make with her, Lou is livid. Captain Rylander is the man who killed her father and she would like nothing more than to have his head.
But the King needs her ship full of women to help travel the journey to kill the Siren Queen. Lou is hesitant to take Rylander and the King up on this mission, until she is offered Rylander as payment. Although she may not kill him, she is allowed to keep him as a servant on her ship.
With Lou’s mostly female ship and a few of Rylander’s men, they set sail to kill the Siren Queen. Lou is startled to find out this isn’t just any mission, but one for the Gods. Many secrets are told and tension builds between Lou and Rylander. She knows she should hate him, but there is something about him that leaves her breathless.
War of the Land
War of the Land picks up several years later when it is time for Princess Savina, Rylander’s sister, to marry right before her eighteenth birthday and take her rightful place on the throne. But Savina is not a fan of arranged marriage and is not looking forward to a life without true love. While traveling with Rylander a few months before her marriage, she meets Conleth when he comes to her rescue. He makes fun of her and introduces himself, but she does not share her name and walks away.
A few weeks later Savina is surprised to find that her betrothed is none other than Conleth, the same man she ran into weeks before. Only his appearance seems slightly different and something seems off. She soon will come to find that everyone in her life is keeping secrets from her. She starts to become friendly with Conleth only to find out he is just like everyone else, full of secrets and deceit.
In the end, Conleth and Savina will have to work together through all the hurt in order to save the world.
War of the Mind
Book three of the Olympian War Series did not disappoint. It picks up several years after Savina's story. War of the Mind stars Cali and Henrik. Cali is the daughter of Lou and Rylander from book one. She is all grown up and in love with her best friend, Hendrik. Hendrik is the son of Lou’s enemy, but that does not keep Cali and Hendrik apart.
When Cali gets devastating news, she knows that she must seek revenge. Knowing Henrik will follow her to the ends of the earth, the only thing she knows to do is erase his memories to keep him safe. This is the only gift she was given as a demigod. Taking away Henrik’s memories ends up being something she will regret the rest of her life.
Five years later the two are tasked to go and save Medusa before her enemy can get to her. While Henrik doesn't remember Cali, she very much remembers him. Working so close together like the team they once were is bringing back memories. But will they be able to team up and save the day? Or will their mission put them in even more danger?
Review
Of all of the YA pirate series I have read, this is, by far, my favorite. It has all of the chemistry romance readers love without the smut. When it comes to romance, it feels like nothing is missing from these novels
I loved all of the characters and being able to revisit them in each of the books. It is always fun to come back to the characters that we fall in love with. Each character was unique in their own way and added something extra to the story. Of all the characters, I do have to say, Captain Lou is still my favorite.
I would give this series five stars, even though I gave the last book four stars overall. I loved War of the Mind but found myself getting frustrated with the pacing at the begining. This is a must read series if you love romantasy novels. Although it is young adult, I felt right at home when reading and will definitely revisit these again one day. This is one of my favorite things about bookstagram: you never know what book you will find next to fall in love with!
Make sure to check out this amazing Romance Fantasy Series ASAP!
