Not Another Love Story by Julie Soto Review
When I saw Julie Soto had written another book, I was absolutely stoked. I adored Forget Me Not that came out in 2023, and knew I needed to read Not Another Love Song as soon as possible. Thankfully Netgalley pulled through for me and I received an ebook ARC. I devoured this book in less than 24 hours.
Synopsis
Gwen Jackson plays the violin for her local orchestra, Pops. She is seventh chair and happy with the way her life is going. She works weddings on the side for a little extra money, especially since living in New York City is not cheap. When she shows up to a wedding with her violin, the wedding planner we all know and love from Forget Me Not, is surprised that she is a violinist because the happy couple wanted a cellist. Thankfully, Xander Throne is part of the wedding party and happens to have his cello available for Gwen to play. Gwen, thankfully, has played the cello before and is able to pull through for the couple and play the songs they have chosen for their special day.
Of course, Gwen knows who Xander Throne is. He also plays for the Pops Orchestra, along with his extremely successful band, Thorne and Roses. But Xander does not recognize Gwen at all. There is tension between them at the wedding, and then even more when they are face to face at a Pops rehearsal a few days later. Gwen finds out that Xander was hoping to be offered the first violin seat, but instead, the offer is extended to Gwen.
This leaves Gwen excited for her new adventure and also confused as to why the famous cellist Xander Thorne would be upset about not getting the violin seat. The two keep getting put in situations where they are drawn to each other. The chemistry between them is on fire, especially when they play together. But there are a lot of secrets between them and fame and fortune could ruin them both.
Review
I adored Not Another Love Story. If I could give it ten stars, I would. Julie Soto did such a great job with the character development through the dual POV. Even though the story was primarily told by Gwen, Xander was sprinkled in throughout the novel. There were also great plot twists throughout the book that I didn't see coming.
Even though I don't have much knowledge about music or instruments, Julie wrote this book so that it was still easy to understand. This was my first book I have read about classical musicians and it makes me wonder why there are not more. Music is a love language in itself, and it makes sense that it would make a book so beautiful.
There was the perfect amount of spice and romance for me and it had a beautiful ending. I finished this book weeks ago and it is still on my mind. Not Another Love Story is out in the world so make sure you add it to your TBR or your cart so you can fall in love like me!
