Two murders have occurred the same way in different locations and there is one common denominator, Lena.

Synopsis
Miss Aldridge Regrets takes place in 1936 in London. Lena Aldridge is a mixed race woman singing in a grungy bar in Soho called The Canary Club. She works for her best friend's husband, Tommy Scarsdale. When her best friend comes to her and shares that Tommy is leaving her for another woman, Lena tries to convince her not to come to the club that evening. She doesn't want her best friend to do anything she will regret. WhenTommy ends up on the floor of the bar and unresponsive that evening, and her best friend is sitting mere feet away… Lena knows that can’t be good.
A stranger approached Lena earlier in the week about an opportunity to be on Broadway in the states, and offered her a first class ticket on the RMS Queen Mary. A week later she is boarding the ship for a chance to make it big in New York. She is told by her “agent” that she needs to try to fit in. The more people aboard the ship that like her, the more opportunities she will have once they arrive in New York. When one of the passengers dies suddenly, the same way that Tommy had, Lena suddenly looks like the most likely culprit.
Lena keeps feeling as if someone is watching her while she spends time on the ship. When she is hit on her head from behind and passes out, she knows she is in danger. After a few days pass Lena realizes someone is trying to frame her. She is unable to feel safe and has no idea who she can trust.
Review
Lena’s character was very likable, and it was easy to get lost in her story. She clearly values family, career and friendship. She is optimistic for her future and the opportunities that lie ahead. Besides Lena, there were no other characters in this book that I really enjoyed. Most characters were snobby and were very unpleasant.
There were a few chapters that felt a little slow, and it took me a little longer to finish than normal. There were quite a few little surprises that were thrown into the story that would keep me engaged. Not knowing who the culprit was until the very end was refreshing. I was completely surprised by the ending, and it made me want to go back and reread to see if I saw any clues I may have missed while reading. I wish there had been a bit more romance in Miss Aldridge Regrets, or possibly more suspense. It felt like it was missing something, but overall was a good read!
