Love & Shooting Stars: The Perfect Fall Romance Read
I was so excited to be able to go back to Laurel Falls to read about Vera’s story. In book one, Sunshine & Cinnamon of the Laurel Falls Series, we read about Ruby and Chase. In Love & Shooting Stars, we get to dive into Ruby’s best friend Vera’s story. While I loved Sunshine & Cinnamon, Love & Shooting Stars is Lindsay Rochester's best book yet.
Synopsis
After getting his business degree, Luca heads home to reluctantly take over his family's business. When he discovers that his father and grandfather have been dealing in illegal activities, he confronts them. But his is only met with anger and rejection. He decides to mail in his findings to the police on his way out of town. Luca takes off driving north and ends up in a little town called Laurel Falls. He uses a different name, Theo, and rents out the infamous apartment above the Sweet Shop Bakery. Mamu, Ruby’s grandmother, welcomes him with open arms.
Vera has had enough of her job at an engineering firm and quits. She realizes she doesn’t have a plan, but she does have enough in her savings to give her a few months to figure out what she is going to do next, so she decides to head to Laurel Falls. When she arrives, she finds out the apartment she was hoping to rent from Mamu is occupied and has to settle for the next best thing, Mamu’s RV.
With the RV parked behind the bakery and apartment above it, Luca and Vera start spending a lot of time together. Their friendship feels familiar and soon they are inseparable. But Luca has a secret, and with his dad and grandfather still out there, he is not willing to take his “friendship” with Vera any further.
Review
I am so excited to be back in Laurel Falls! Vera is such a fun character, her internal dialogue had me laughing and smiling throughout the novel. Her witty, flirty banter with Lucas makes me swoon. They have such an amazing chemistry that radiates off the pages. I can just picture Luca smiling. The descriptions throughout the story make me feel like I am in the pages.
All of the Italian words of endearment that are sprinkled throughout the book are the chef’s kiss. There were certain parts of this book that just felt so relatable, like Vera always wanting Lucas’s sweatshirt. I also loved the texting back and forth between Vera and Luca. Another thing I adored about this book was that Lucas loves his momma, and is always checking in on her.
Mamu is one of my favorite characters from the last novel and she is in this one as well. The bakery plays such an important role in this town. It is the epicenter for the characters. Ray, Vera’s “adopted” grandfather, is a great addition to the characters in this novel,as was Wes, Luca's new employer. I hope book three has Wes and his story!
