Karin Slaughter Will Trent Series: After That Night

There is just something about Karin Slaughter’s writing that just hooks me deeply into her novels. After That Night is the eleventh book in the series. You do not need to read the whole series to enjoy this novel. I have been following Will Trent’s story throughout this series, and I am so invested in his life. I am thrilled that he and Sarah Linton are thriving, although there are always multiple obstacles that are placed in their path.

After That Night

Synopsis

Three years ago Sarah was working at the hospital when a woman came in with multiple life-threatening injuries. Before the woman died, told Sarah that she had been raped. Sarah spent the next three years doing everything she could to get the accused person behind bars.

Tommy, the accused, happens to be the son of Sarah’s old schoolmates from college, Mac and Britt. When Britt bumps into Sarah in the bathroom the day of Tommy’s trial, she says something that Sarah can’t ignore–that “everything is connected.” Sarah becomes fixated on how the young woman died, and how Sarah’s traumatic past might be related. Sarah, Will, and Faith (Will’s partner) start digging into the past and discovering how many secrets were being kept.

After more digging, they realize they are starting to put together a very serious case that would incriminate several very powerful men. After going rogue with this mission and not telling Amanda, their boss, what they are doing, Sarah decides she is truly ready to go forward with putting these men behind bars–even though it will drag her through her horrible past all over again.

But the secrets that are being hidden are even crazier than Sarah could imagine.

Review

This book kept me on my toes. It took me longer to read than usual because some of the details of the rapes and crimes were quite heavy. I had to have a light, fluffy book on the side to switch over to every now and then.

Karin has done such an amazing job building all of the characters in this book. Will, Sarah, Faith, and even Amanda, have started to feel like comfort characters. They all have grown slowly throughout the series, and I can’t wait to see where Karin takes the story next.

If you are a Will Trent fan, I highly recommend reading this book. If you are not ready for an 11 book series, you can still enjoy the Karin Slaughter Will Trent Series and read this book as a standalone!
