Just For The Summer by Abby Jimenez Review

We all have authors on our auto-buy list. Abby Jimenez is one of them for me. She has never let me down and has a way of pulling me into her writing that makes me excited to find out what happens while also wishing the book will never end. Just for the Summer is my favorite Abby book so far. I am so thankful to Forever Publishing to allow me to read it early.

Synopsis

Justin is the king of happily ever after, except it's never his own. Every girl he dates goes off to find Mr. Right immediately after she and Justin part ways. One day Justin decides to make a Reddit post about his “curse.”

Emma is a traveling nurse who never stays anywhere too long. With the trauma of her past, she isn’t sure if she just doesn’t want to put down roots, or if she isn’t capable of it. One day during her lunch break, Emma and her best friend, Maddy, stumble upon Justin’s Reddit post. Emma reaches out to Justin letting him know the same thing happens to her. They start chatting when Justin proposes the perfect plan: to date each other to break the curse. The only problem is that Emma and Maddy are heading to Hawaii next and Justin lives in Minnesota.

On a whim, Emma convinces Maddy to change plans so she can “date” Justin to break the curse. When they meet in person, Justin instantly knows Emma is not someone he wants to break up with. But his life is also crumbling beneath him and his baggage might be enough to convince Emma not to put down roots.

Both Emma and Justin have a lot to learn about themselves and each other, but will they help each other find their soulmates when they inevitably break-up? Or will they be left feeling emptier than before?

Review

Just for the Summer is told from both Emma and Justin’s perspectives, allowing us to really see their characters and their development throughout the novel. Justin is the definition of a golden retriever MMC. His heart is big and he cares so much for Emma and his family. Emma has suffered a traumatic past that she never truly came to terms with, and I think many people will find that very relatable. Throughout the novel it is like she is discovering she is an onion, peeling back her own layers to truly learn who she is.

There was a twist in this novel that had my jaw dropping. Abby usually has a small twist here and there in her novels, but this one definitely takes the cake. I can’t wait for more people to read Just for the Summer so I can talk their ears off about it.

The thing about the synopsis of this novel is it doesn’t touch on the many details and s\rplots this story has. Abby is truly a genius when it comes to writing. One thing that Abby always does is connect her different series together. You will find small traces of previous novels, whether it is a singer or famous blogger that she has mentioned. It just makes you feel at home when reading. Abby also knows how to pull at my heartstrings. It takes a lot to make me cry in a book, usually a few happy tears at the end. But of course Abby had me crying in bed when I was only halfway through this book.

Maybe we will get to learn more about Maddy and her love interest in another book, or maybe Abby will introduce us to other characters in her next novel. The only bummer to reading Just for the Summer early is knowing I have to wait even longer to read her next book.

This 5-Star read had me feeling all of the feels. Make sure you pre-order Just for the Summer so that you can have your own copy of Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez. It comes out April 2nd!
