Finding Mr. Write by Kelley Armstrong
A friend of mine recommended Finding Mr. Write by Kelley Armstrong so highly, I had to request it on NetGalley and see for myself! It was unlike any book I have read before and had me smiling from ear to ear! Thank you Forever Grand Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to dive into this fun, unique romcom!
Synopsis
Daphne McFadden lives in the Yukon with very few neighbors and a lot of time to work on her writing. She still has a few projects from her prior job as an architect, but has found that writing is where her heart is. Now she has published her first ever book: a YA dystopian zombie novel and could not be more proud of herself. The only problem? She used a male pseudonym–Zane Remmington–so her book would get picked up by a publisher. The good news is that her book has made it to the best seller list; the bad news is she has to hire someone to play Zane Remmington so that all her hard work does not go to waste.
Chris Stanton is in a bind now that his business partner has screwed them over with their finances. He needs help and that is when a lawyer offers to help him out for free, as long as he agrees to pretend to be Zane Remmington, an author, for her best friend. Since it is between living in his car and selling his car, he decides to take her up on the offer.
Chris and Daphne begin working together trying to stay one step ahead of the growing author and book publicity. When they get an offer for a film crew to come up and tape “Zane Remmington” in his natural habitat, Chris heads up to the Yukon to pretend to have Daphne’s life and live in her home. The pressure is getting stronger for them to keep up the ruse, but also to try to keep the relationship professional.
Review
This was the first time Kelley Armstrong has crossed my radar and I am so excited to start binge reading all of her other books. I was instantly hooked from the first sentence, and it just got better after that. Kelley was a fun lumberjack character who felt very real and made me want to go out and cut some lumber–but after reading this book, I know that is a terrible idea if you do not know what you are doing. Daphne’s home was so well described that I was able to picture the whole thing, from the mountains, to the lake, to her cute part wolf dog.
Chris was the definition of a golden retriever MMC. He was smart, silly and It was fun to watch her and Chris’s relationship develop. The slow burn was great and kept me on my toes. I felt like it was such a tease waiting for something to actually happen, but once it did it was worth it.
I am so glad that I had the opportunity to read this new, fun romcom and can’t wait for it to be released to the world on June 25th! Make sure to mark your calendars for Finding Mr. Write and be ready to dive into the wilderness of Yukon, Canada!
