Dylan Newton Books You Must Read
I was introduced to Dylan Newton through the Salted Caramel Madams Book Club. How Sweet It Is was one of our book club picks in 2023. We were able to Zoom with Dylan and chat with her about her writing process and her journey with the Matthews brothers books. Dylan has such a fun writing style and great character development that makes you fall in love with all of her characters, including the secondary ones.
The first Matthews brother we meet is Drake. He is famous for his horror novels and is called the “King of Nightmares.” He hates the spotlight, but his agent is forcing him to put himself and his book out there and make his fans happy.
Kate Sweet is a very well known event planner. When she is given the opportunity to plan Drake Matthews bestselling book launch party, she is stoked. She begins planning right away but Drake is not the easy going client she was hoping for. He is the grump, and she is the sunshine. Kate tries to meet Drake where he is to still plan the perfect launch with wild props while making him feel comfortable.
But sparks are flying and it's not from all of the party props.
Imani Lewis is heading back to Wellsville, NY, to throw Kate, her best friend, a baby shower and prepare for a few weeks of caring for her Gigi. It's been eight months since Imani has seen Zander Matthews, eight months since the drunken night after Kate’s wedding (two nights if we are being technical). After that, Imani disappeared and ignored all of Zander’s calls and texts.
Imani is shocked when she isn’t greeted by her best friend at the airport, but instead by Zander Matthews. She has been pushing down her lingering feelings for over half a year and doesn’t plan on giving in to them now.
Zander seems to be everywhere all the time, and she can’t quite find a way to escape his kindness or his charm.
Ryker Matthews is back from Afghanistan with one less limb and a whole lot of PTSD. He is taking it one day at a time and keeping his hardships to himself.
Bryce Weatherford has become the legal guardian for her three nieces after a tragic accident left them without parents. Bryce has absolutely no idea how to parent and is in survival mode. She is trying to both run her own bakery so she can keep up with all the financial obligations that come with caring for children, as well as provide the guardianship that the kids' grandparents think they deserve.
When Ryker and Bryce stumble upon each other, it is game over.
Review
The Matthews Brothers Series was a fun adventure. Each brother has a unique personality that compliments the others. I think my favorite Matthew’s brother might be Drake, even though book three, Change of Plans, was my favorite of the series. This series was sweet and full of memorable moments. The characters in these novels make this series shine because you fall in love with all of them.
The Salted Caramel Madams Book Club has had the pleasure of chatting with Dylan Newton twice about her novels. Dylan shared her publishing journey and how she ended up where she is today. It is always fascinating to learn how authors have taken many different routes to get to where they are and hear about the obstacles they have faced.
When chatting with Dylan, I had to ask her who her favorite Mathews brother was. She said that is like asking to pick a favorite child, that you love them each for different reasons and they are all your favorite.
I can’t wait to see what is next for Dylan!
