Bride by Ali Hazelwood Review

So far I have read every Ali Hazelwood book to date, and I have loved them all. Bride is her first fantasy romance, and while I was worried it would not be as good as her previous novels, it turns out I did not need to worry at all. She crushed her first fantasy novel and I can’t wait for the second one to come out!

Synopsis

Misery Lark is just a normal vampyre living amongst the humans. After serving the majority of her life to help her kind, she has decided life is easier with the dull, boring humans. Thankfully she has her best and only friend by her side every step of the way. That is until Serena goes missing–and Misery will do just about anything to find her. That includes marrying the Alpha of the Weres, Lowe, and living with him as collateral.

It is clear to Misery that Lowe can’t stand her, but all she needs to do is find more information on Serena. But while snooping around the Were home, she ends up becoming attached to Ana, Lowe’s little sister. What started as a search mission quickly turns into more when she discovers Ana and Serena are connected. She is even more surprised to find out the Alpha she married isn’t as terrible as she thought he would be.

Review

At first the world building in Bride felt a little hard to follow. There are three species in the novel: Weres, Vampyres,  and Humans. These three species are all mortal enemies and have created “collateral alliances” to help keep the peace between their kinds. Understanding the Weres and Vampyre worlds, their alliances, and their genetic makeups was a journey, but Ali did a great job building the world and the details that went into it. The different species even had different blood types.

I love when a fantasy world has “mates.” There is something so pure and enticing about there being one true mate for someone. Misery’s character was my favorite of Ali’s FMCs. Her inner dialogue had me grinning from ear to ear. Her personality was relatable and funny. I also adored Lowe, he was the perfect leader of the pack. His kindness and patience just goes to show why fictional characters are so amazing.

Bride was not just a romance, but a whole fantasy experience. Some of the twists and turns I did see coming, while others threw me for a loop. I loved the ending and look forward to more books in this fantasy world. Ali has definitely shown us she can rock writing romances with women in STEM, new adult novels, and now fantasy worlds. She is an author of many talents and can’t wait to see where her writing career takes her next.

Make sure to Bride by Ali Hazelwood to your bookshelf, it comes out on February 6th! Ali has another STEM romance novel coming out in June, Not In Love, so make sure to add that to your TBR as well!
